RELIGION – The Miracle

Sencillamente comencé a hablarle.

When it is sunny I usually go fishing, which is something that calms me.  The place where I usually go to is nice and quiet.  Apart from the distraction of fishing itself, another important factor that keeps me there for a couple of hours is the presence of three birds who start to flutter over my head whenever they see me.  A couple of days ago I brought them grains of rice and maize and they thanked me with a vibrant and rhythmic chant.  In this way we have come to establish a happy friendship.  After a month I decided to approach the birds in a more fluid manner.  Simply put, I started to talk to them.  Everything was very easy, I filled the palm of my hand with grains of corn.  In a few seconds I saw the three birds eating out of my hand without any fear.  That gave me the confidence to speak with all naturalness, "Are you birds happy to see me?"  It was in that magical moment that the miracle occurred.

I could hear their response at that moment, "Yes we are, to see that you mean no harm to us.  We are also happy to see that you return the fish to the sea every time you catch them."  I could not believe this miraculous conversation.  Asked if they needed my grains of rice for their livelihood, they answered no, “The Creator has endowed us with food of the trees, and nature gives us what we need.  We still accept your grains of rice as a token of your kindness."  One of the birds asked me the reason for my presence in the quiet cove.  I, somewhat shy, told him that this was my way to meditate and be alone with God.  The bird asked me if their God was the same as mine, He who provides for him and other animals.  I told him that He is the same who provides for us humans too.  The bird told me that  their encounters with beings human has not always been so friendly, compared with me, as there are cruel children who sometimes mutilate them in perverse games.  I told them that not all humans are cruel; for example there was a great Saint called St. Francis of Assisi, who preached to birds just like them.  The sparrows, upon hearing his voice, began to stretch their necks in rejoice, tended their wings, and opened their beaks.  When I finish my chat with the sparrows, I went back to my house.  And on the way I said to myself that this miraculous adventure with the birds has reaffirmed my belief that the only way out in these hard times is to leave everything in hands of the Creator, who will save us from our ills and misfortunes, the same as He does with the three birds.
